2024.10.24._International Academic Seminar to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Collecting Korea-related Materials Abroad

On Thursday, October 24th, the National Library of Korea held an international academic seminar at its international conference hall on the theme "The Present and Future of Collecting Korea-related Modern and Contemporary Materials Abroad." The event was organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the overseas collection of Korea-related materials and to discuss international cooperation strategies and service models for the collection and sharing of Korean-related records, as well as to explore future development directions.


The seminar began with a welcoming address by You-Jin Choi, Director of the Knowledge Information Management Department, and congratulatory messages from Dong-Hyun Heo, Chairman of the National Institute of Korean History, and Yong-Cheol Lee, Director of the National Archives of Korea. ▲Emeritus Professor Hee-Soo Lee from Hanyang University and Chair Professor at Sungkonghoe University gave a keynote speech on "The Importance of Discovering Overseas Korea-related Materials and Cultural Utilization Methods." ▲Hye-Eun Lim, Senior Librarian at the National Library of Korea's Online Materials Division, reported on "The Achievements and Significance of Korea-related Records Collection by the National Representative Library of Korea." Following that, ▲Cate Brennan, Director of the Private Records Division at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in the United States, presented on "Korea-related Records at NARA," and ▲Janos Focze, Chief Archivist at the Hungarian National Archives, gave a presentation on "Korea-related Records in Central and Eastern Europe." Finally, ▲Minh Chung, former Head Librarian for Korean Studies at Oxford University, presented on "Korean Collections and Artifacts Collected by Oxford University Since 1880."
