Information Organization
  • Information organization is the process of classifying collected resources by subject and cataloguing them according to specific rules in order to provide users with an easy access to the library’s collections and to help them quickly find the resources they want.
  • In classifying books, for which each academic discipline is given a number code, the 6th edition of the Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) is applied to domestic and Oriental books (Chinese and Japanese) and non-book resources, while the 23rd edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) is applied to Western books. The Park Bong Seok Version of the Korean Decimal Classification is applied to ancient books.
  • Cataloguing refers to creating a list database by various bibliographical items including publication title, author, publisher, series title, publishing year and keyword according to specific rules in order to help users find resources easily by checking any of these items. The 4th edition of Korean Cataloging Rules (KCR) is applied to Korean and Oriental books, non-book resources and old books, while Resource Description and Access (RDA) is applied to Western books. The catalog database is provided through the Internet or PC communication network to satisfy various information needs of the public.
